After a 2 year break, I think I might start this thing up again. A quick recap of events (that I care about) since the last blog post. Why not start this back up with a top 10 list:
10)The Heat Become the Evil Empire
What a douche. When people wonder why everyone hates the Heat, it all leads back to "The Decision". Who does this? Then after the decision, the Heat throw a championship party before they even have their 1st practice. Watching the Lebron & the Heat collapse in the finals was one of my favorite moments of the year.
9)Big 10=Big 12.... Big 12=.....Big 10?
The Big 10 (which was 11 teams as of 2010), added Nebraska to their conference. Meanwhile, the Big 12 (formerly the Big 8) lost 2 teams (Nebraska & Colorado). Now the Big 10 has 12 teams, and the Big 12 has 10 teams. If you're still following me, I like the way this worked out for the Big 10. This should be a great addition to an already strong football conference. Here's my beef. They named the two divisions Legends & Leaders. How gay is that? Also, look at the new logo. I literally could have made that in photoshop. Stick to East & West divisions, and re-do your logo, and you have a fan for life.
8)Natural & Man-made Disasters
Haiti and Japan got pretty fucked by natural disasters. Poor infrastructure for the entire country of Haiti, and Japanese power plants lead to tragedy for both countries. As we all know, BP really fucked themselves with this Oil spill. Although progress has been made for all three recoveries, it's going to be years before we see the full ramifications of all three disasters.
7)Tiger Woods Y'all
Ouch. I mean.... that really really sucks. One day, you're the best golf player in the world for over 10 years running, have a supermodel wife, and the highest paid athlete in sports. Fast forward two years and your career (and marriage) has been flushed down the tubes. All for some skanks. As of right now, Tiger hasn't won a major since 2008, and is ranked #17 in the world.
6)I Finally Got My CFP®
Another step in the right direction. Looks like someone (mua) is finally starting to get their shit together. Next step is the CIMA.
5)Snoprrraaah
Call it what you want. Snoprah, Snobama, Snopocolypse, Thundersnow... This storm was the tits. This is the 1st snow day I've had since the epic Ice Day of '07. This storm turned Lake Shore Drive into a parking lot for 2 days. It was also a great excuse to get wasted on a Tuesday.4)Hawks Win!
What was even more fun than watching the Hawks clinch the Stanley Cup for the 1st time in over 50 years, was the aftermath. That team went on several Charlie Sheen-esque binges throughout the summer of 2010 with the Stanley Cup.
3)The Rest of Chicago Sports- Still Depressing
Besides the Cubs, the teams don't really suck. It's just been a few years of up's and down's. Two years after the championship the Hawks are now a shell of their championship team. The Bulls are an up & coming team, and Derrick Rose is the real deal. Because the team is full of veterans, the Bears have a 2 year window to win the Superbowl. The Cubs are just pathetic. This link pretty much sums up the last year of Chicago sports.
2)People Passed
Many people passed over the last two years, but none bigger to me, than my grampa, Sidney Glassberg. At 90, he lived one hell of a life, and actually got quite a bit of press after his passing.
1)Got Engaged
Last but not least..... I am now engaged to the love of my life (the beautiful brown girl above). The pic was taken moments after our proposal on Navy Pier. Wedding will be next June. I can't believe I acutally tricked someone into marrying me. We currently live in Lincoln Park, and love living downtown.
